Bowen Country Club Directors and Staff

In the 50 years that Bowen Country Club existed, there were only three sets of directors: Thora Lund, 1912-1938; Mr. Robert and Mrs. Ada Hicks, 1938-1958; Mr. Robert (Dib) Mulligan, 1958-1962.

Another unique story about Bowen Country Club is the story of its staff.

From year to year, counselors, directors, commissary department aids (CDA), cooks, counselors in training (CIT), and gardeners came from all over the United States and abroad and from all walks of life -- social workers, teachers, students, athletes, coaches, nurses, former campers, and volunteers. They came; they washed dishes; they wore old clothes; they played in the mud, talked, laughed and danced with you because that’s what Bowen Country Club was all about.

One of the many lessons taught at Bowen was Ms. Addams’ philosophy on equality. Prejudices were not tolerated. Hopefully, the campers recognized that and took it back home with them.
